NATIONAL CONCERT HALL
Inspired by Lithuania’s naturally occurring geometric patterns found in the rich geological context of the Baltics, this hill top concert hall reveals an unearthed architectural jewel, one sculpted by sound, becoming a universal symbol representational of the power, grandeur and a humanity of the arts. Built from the inside out, each dynamic carved gesture of the main halls skin system, both internally and externally, are acoustically shaped by three dimensional conditions which catch and reflect sound to the visiting spectator. Seamlessly integrated with in the tensile steel structural system and glass façade, this new illuminated lantern becomes a beacon, welcoming the city of Vilnius and becoming a must see attraction for the local community. An urban gemstone, an architectural lantern, an almost ethereal vessel of sound – all of these applied idiosyncrasies become universally identifiable symbols relatable to both domestic and international visitors alike. Independent, Identifiable, transparent, clear and timeless, this new landmark on top of Tauras hill will become a concert hall, an educational space, a park, offices and a cultural landmark all rolled into one unifying home for the people.
The form of the building essentially reflects its contents and its functionality through a clear and bold parti which consists of a series of horizontal terraces meeting at the crescendo which is the Main concert hall itself.
A monument to music, the proposal represents the very best of the city of Vilnius, connecting both the past with its future. The proposal becomes more than just a new concert hall, it is a major new piece in the puzzle of the developing city of Vilnius. The new building is not just a mire extension of Tauras hill but also the connective tissue that interweaves the urban context together towards a new central node.

As unique and identifiable as the Lithuanian language itself.
There is a universal component, which shapes all concert halls, sound waves.
This in turn signals and signifies the movement of visitors throughout the public space.
The internal façade become an instrument of structure, and integrates within it all.
It is this proposals intention that the architecture is shaped by its acoustical function, and that this character is represented both internally and externally.
Built with acoustics and concert hall goers experience in mind, this new home to the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra will be seen, heard and experienced by all. Whether seated in the front row or an upper balcony, concert goers can be sure they are seeing and hearing exactly what the design intended.
